2012 Stewardship Campaign Update We extend our deepest thanks to all who have pledged for 2012 and to those who have increased their initial pledge. As of January 24, we have received 123 pledges for a total of $487,205. This is $26,332 short of the $513,537 goal. If parishioners who have not yet pledged were to do so, and if those who have already pledged were to increase their pledge by just $220 (less than $5 per week), we would reach our goal.
Adult Forum Sunday, February 5, 9:15 a.m. (Parish Hall) On February 5, the Adult Forum will hear from Jorge Guzman and Will Imbrie, two parishioners with vast international experience. During his 27 years with the IMF, Jorge, an international economist, participated in efforts to spur economic growth and reduce poverty in many Latin American countries. Will, a senior Foreign Service officer with a long-standing interest in peacekeeping and post-conflict stability operations, was Director of Peacekeeping & Humanitarian Operations. He coordinated peacekeeping policy within the US government and Congress, the U.N. Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the U.N. Security Council. Both will talk about their work and how it has interacted with their faith, and vice versa.
Bible Study Bible Study takes place on Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in the Intermediate Classroom. The present study topic is the Old Testament prophets. All are welcome!
Lay Reader Training Session this Sunday Sunday, February 5, 12:30 p.m. (Nave) All lay readers (even those who have received training in the past) are asked to attend a training session, led by parishioner Katie Glover and The Rev. Susan Thon, this Sunday, February 5, at 12:30 p.m., in the nave. If you are unable to attend, please contact the Parish Office: office.redeemer@verizon.net or 301-229-3770.
Greeter Training Session next Sunday All greeters (even those who have received training in the past) are asked to attend a training session, led by parishioner Mary K Young and Susan Thon on Sunday, February 12, at 12:30 p.m., in the nave. Prospective greeters are also welcome! If you are unable to attend, please contact the Parish Office: office.redeemer@verizon.net or 301-229-3770.
Foyer Dinners: New Groups Forming If you would like to participate, please add your name to the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall by February 12. Foyer Dinners are an excellent opportunity to broaden and deepen friendships with fellow parishioners in a social setting. Groups will meet 3-4 times from late February through May/June. For more information, see Redeemer’s Annual Report or contact parishioner Mary Helen Carlson: carlsonmh1@gmail.com or 301-983-0541
Inscape Chamber Orchestra: “Schubertiade” Sunday, February 12, 5:00 p.m. Franz Schubert’s Octet for Strings and Winds stands as one of the great masterpieces of the chamber music repertory. The Inscape Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble-in-residence at Redeemer, has commissioned four composers to create musical responses to the Octet. These will be heard as interludes between movements. Free-will offering. Reception to follow.
Forward Day by Day Booklets Forward Day by Day booklets for February – April 2012 are available in the Narthex and the Parish Hall. The requested contribution is $1 for the regular edition and $1.25 for large-print.
Coffee Hour and Altar Flowers: Please Sign-up There are two sign-up sheets on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall – one for Coffee Hour and one for Altar Flowers. We invite you to sign-up! If you have questions about Coffee Hour, please contact Patricia Snowden: 301-229-2170 or postscript2@verizn.net.
Altar Guild: New Members Wanted The Altar Guild’s ministry includes arrangement of altar flowers, care of sacred vessels and linens, and set-up for Sunday (and other) liturgies. If you are interested in this ministry or have questions, please contact Kukula Glastris or Marie France, Altar Guild Co-chairs.
Redeemer Book Group The group’s next selection is A Very Long Engagement, by Sebastien Japrisot. This historical novel tells the story of a young French woman's search for her fiancée, who was believed to have died in the trenches during World War I. The Group will meet on Sunday, March 4, 3:00 p.m., at the home of Huda & Jochen Kraske. For more information, please contact Bob Dresser: robert.dresser@gmail.com.
Interfaith Hunger Banquet The Interfaith Youth Action Group (IYAG), part of the 9/11 Unity Walk organization, is organizing its second Hunger Banquet on Saturday, February 4, 6:30-8:30 p.m. This is an intergenerational, interactive, fun community event where a meal is served and information given on how food and poverty are related, and how food is allocated around the world. The Banquet is a dramatization where everyone participates in experiencing what hunger is like. Redeemer youth participate in this group, as do parishioners Mike and Dominique Rychlik. You can sign up on line at http://uucahungerbanquet2012.eventbrite.com/ or contact Sana Saeed: 703-892-2565 or sana.saeed@uucava.org.
